Description
H. Kearton & Sons store is a building originally constructed as a goods shed, part of the mid-19th century terminus for the Alston branch of the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway. It is made of squared, snecked rubble and features stepped diagonal buttressing in ashlar. The roof is hipped and covered with Welsh slate. The building is a single storey with three bays and was floored internally as of 1983. The north and south walls each have a train arch that is now blocked, while the east wall has two similar arches that provided access to the platform for goods wagons. There are three fixed windows on the west side. Later additions at the south end are not included in this description.
