Description

This milestone, dating from 1807, was created for the Longtown-Brampton Turnpike Trust. It is made of red sandstone and is set at an angle to provide two faces for traffic direction. One side has the number 10 incised, indicating the miles to Longtown, while the other side shows the number 1, indicating the miles to Brampton. The milestone is whitewashed, with the numbers highlighted in black.
