Description

The Police Station and Magistrates' Court, built in the late 1860s and 1902, is constructed from dressed red sandstone with a rusticated plinth and features a Welsh slate roof with coped gables and stone chimney stacks. The building has two storeys, with a four-bay facade facing Carlisle Road and a three-bay extension to the left, as well as two bays on the Longtown Road facade.

The entrance is highlighted by a projecting stone porch that includes double pilaster strips with moulded capitals, an entablature adorned with triglyphs, a moulded cornice, and a blocking course that bears erased lettering reading "MAGISTRATES OFFICE." Above this, there is a moulded gable pediment. The building features sash windows with glazing bars on the sides and the extension. To the right of the entrance, there is an inscription on the lintel that reads "POLICE STATION, 1902," accompanied by triple and double casements with glazing bars and two hipped dormers above.

A garage extension on the right has plank doors and a wall that rounds to the corner. The Magistrates' Office now serves as the Police Station, with the Magistrates' Court located behind it. The former Police Station has been repurposed into rest rooms and a kitchen, with a former flat situated above.
