Description

This milestone, dating from the early 19th century, was erected for the Longtown to Edinburgh Turnpike. It is made of red sandstone and features a cast iron plate. The stone is squared with a rounded top and has a circular plate on the front displaying the raised letters "CARLISLE 11 MILES." The milestone is whitewashed, with the letters highlighted in black.
