Description
The ice house located north-east of Netherby Hall is a former ice storage facility, likely built in the early 19th century, with a date of 1844 scratched on one of the stone door jambs. Constructed from sandstone rubble and brick, it has a circular plan and is built into a natural bank, accessed through a low narrow passage. The entrance features a plank door set in a dressed stone surround, with a similar inner door. Inside, the ice pit is made of brick and has a domed roof, while the walls show remnants of a wooden inner wall.
