Description

This milestone, likely dating from 1793, was erected for the Carlisle-Longtown Turnpike. It is made of whitewashed red sandstone and features a rounded top stone with a circular recess on the front that once held a cast-iron plate, which is now missing. Instead, the milestone has painted black letters indicating "CARLISLE 4 MILES." There is also a benchmark on the top.
