Description

This milestone, likely dating from 1793, was constructed for the Carlisle-Longtown Turnpike. It is made of whitewashed sandstone and features a cast-iron plate. The stone has a rounded top and displays a recessed circular cast plate on the front, which has raised lettering painted in black that reads "CARLISLE 3 MILES."
