Description
The Church of St John the Baptist is a church built in 1870 by the Borough of Carlisle. It is constructed from hammer-dressed red sandstone, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, and has graduated green slate roofs topped with cross finials. The building includes a sandstone bell turret with a green slate spire. The church has a two-bay nave that features a west bell turret and a gabled porch, along with a single bay chancel that has a north vestry. The south porch is adorned with a pointed moulded arch and lattice oak doors. The windows are made up of two to three lights with mullions, featuring triform heads and diamond leaded panes. Inside, there are early 20th-century pews and other furnishings from 1870. The site is not ancient.
