Description

This milestone, located west of Newtown, was erected in 1807 for the Longtown-Brampton Turnpike Trust. It is made of red sandstone and is set at an angle to provide two faces for traffic. One side features the incised number 8, indicating the miles to Longtown, while the opposite side shows the incised number 3, indicating the miles to Brampton. The milestone has been whitewashed, with the numbers highlighted in black.
