Description

This milestone, likely dating from 1807, was created for the Brampton-Longtown Turnpike. It is made of whitewashed red sandstone and is square in shape, set at an angle to provide two faces for passing traffic. One side is inscribed with the number 4, indicating the miles to Longtown, while the other side shows the number 7, indicating the miles to Brampton. The numbers are highlighted in black.
