Description

The garden columns located southeast of the Vicarage are 12th century church piers that have been repurposed as garden features. They were originally part of the nearby Church of St Cuthbert. These columns are made of rounded red sandstone, constructed from jointed blocks, and feature carved capitals with incised decoration, which has weathered over time. The columns were removed from the church during its rebuilding in 1845.
