Description

No. 27 Portland Square is a house, now an office, dating from 1864. It has red brick construction with painted stone dressings, a chamfered plinth, a string course, stone-bracketed metal gutter, and a greenslate roof with a 20th-century boxed dormer, along with rebuilt brick chimney stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and is two storeys high with three bays.

The main entrance features a panelled door and fanlight within a Venetian Gothic surround, incorporating colonnettes and a heavy, bracketed hood. A three-light bay window is situated on the ground floor, set within a stone architrave with a bracketed sill and cornice. Above, sash windows are found within chamfered stone architraves, complete with panelled aprons and decorative sills. The interior has not been inspected. The building is inscribed with the initials JN and the date 1864 over the entrance.
