Description
No. 20 Mawdsley Street is a house, now used as offices, built around 1820. It is constructed of brick with a stone plinth and has a slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and features a four-window range, with a doorway located to the left of the center that leads to the entrance and stair hall. The entrance is framed by a pedimented case supported by Ionic columns with foliate capitals. The windows are 12-pane sash types with fine glazing bars and flat arched gauged brick heads, and they have stone sills that create a continuous band across the upper storeys. There is a moulded wood eaves cornice at the top. On the north side, there is a single window return that includes Venetian windows on the ground and first floors; the ground floor window is painted blind, and the first-floor window is partially blocked. A rear wing extends to the south. Inside, the building retains its original layout and many details, including a staircase with cast-iron balusters, plaster cornices, and a plaster bracketed arch in the entrance hall.
