Description
37 Mawdsley Street is a house, now used as offices, dating from around 1800. It is constructed of brick and features a slate roof. The building has three storeys and a three-window range, with a doorway on the left that leads to a stair hall. The entrance is framed by an Ionic doorcase with engaged columns, a plain frieze, and a cornice. The windows are 12-pane sashes with painted stone flat arched heads and stone sills, creating a continuous band at the first floor. The eaves overhang, and there are rebuilt end wall stacks. A lead rainwater head is located on the right side.
Inside, the original layout and many details have been preserved, including a curved dog-leg staircase with moulded brackets at the tread ends, plain balusters, and a moulded rail. Plaster cornices can be found throughout the building, along with a plaster archway in the entrance hall.
