Description
Buswells is a house dating from about 1800. It is constructed primarily of brick, with a slate roof and flanking brick stacks. The house is two storeys and an attic, with three bays. All windows have flat-arched brick surrounds and 20th-century wood casements. The central doorway features a moulded wooden surround, a flat hood on brackets, and a six-panel door. There is a transomed casement window on either side of the doorway. Matching two-light windows are present on the first floor, and two-light casement windows in the attic. A brick dentil cornice runs along the top of the building.
An extension was added to the right side around 1800, using a mix of chequered red and grey brick, and incorporating part of an earlier building constructed of coursed ironstone rubble in the right bay. It has a slate roof and a brick stack. This extension is two storeys and has three bays, including a central carriage way with a flat brick arch. A three-light transomed casement window is in a flat-arched brick frame to the right; a 20th-century doorway with a wood lintel is in the second bay from the right, a one-light window with a wood lintel is in the third bay, and a two-light casement window with a wood lintel is in the right bay. The first floor has a three-light transomed casement window with a wood lintel in the right bay. A three-light casement window with a flat brick surround is in the left bay, and a similar two-light window is above the carriage entrance. A brick dentil cornice is present. A stone coped gable end is on the right.
A 20th-century extension projecting forward from the left side of the main block is not of special architectural interest. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for group value.
