Description

This is a cottage dating from the 17th century, significantly remodelled in the early 19th century and with a lowered roof pitch. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with squared quoins, and has a slate roof and brick stacks. The building is in an L-shape. The front has two storeys and a cellar, with one bay. Doorways and windows are framed by flat arched brick surrounds, and all windows have old iron casements. The left bay has a six-panel part-glazed door and a three-light casement window to the right. A similar three-light window is on the first floor. A gabled wing projecting from the left side, built at the same time and using similar materials, is one storey high with one bay containing three-light casement windows. A two-light stone-mullioned window is visible in the cellar at the rear. An extension to the right, likely dating from the late 17th century, is built of coursed ironstone rubble with a corrugated iron roof and a brick stack; the rear was rebuilt in brick in the early 19th century. This extension is one bay wide and two storeys high, with two two-light casement windows with flat arched brick surrounds on the ground floor and a three-light casement window with a wooden lintel on the first floor. The gable end has brick coping. Inside, there are chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace.
