Description

The Red Lion Public House is a house that has been converted into a public house, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of whitewashed stone rubble with a slate roof and features brick and stone stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a total of four bays. The entrance is located in the second bay from the left and consists of a wood lintel above a plank door. The left and right bays contain three-light casement windows, each with wood lintels. To the right of the entrance, there is a 19th-century sash window with a wood lintel. On the first floor, there is a three-light casement window in the left bay, while the right bay and the second bay from the left have similar windows, although the sills have been lowered. There is also a small one-light window with a wood lintel to the right of the center. The right gable end is coped and features kneelers. To the left, there is a lower extension that dates from the 18th or 19th century, made of whitewashed stone rubble with a gable end that has been rebuilt in brick and a slate roof. This extension has two storeys and one bay, with a three-light casement window on the ground floor and a similar two-light window on the first floor. The interior was remodelled in the 20th century but retains chamfered spine beams.
