Description

Nos. 20 and 22 on Brigstock High Street are two dwellings that were originally a single house, likely built in the late 17th century and remodeled in the 19th century. The building is constructed from squared coursed limestone and has a slate roof. It features a three-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with a three-window range.

No. 20 has a canted wooden bay on the ground floor to the right, with a 19th-century sash window above it. No. 22 has casement windows beneath wooden lintels. Between the window ranges, there are two four-panel doors; the one on the right has glazed panels, and both doors are also under wooden lintels. The bay on the right is set back from the main range. The building has ashlar gable parapets on the right and brick stacks at the ridge and end.

At the rear of No. 20, there is a range of outbuildings that have casement windows and were probably used as dwellings in the past. The interior of No. 20 has not been inspected but is noted to contain a 17th-century fireplace with a four-centre arch head. The interior of No. 22 has remnants of an open fireplace with a bressumer. This listing is included for its group value.
