Description

The war memorial stands in the triangular Hall Hill market square close to the scheduled Market Cross. Some 6m high overall, it comprises a limestone cross with PROWESS/ COUNTRY/ ENDURANCE/ [illegible] in raised lettering around the base of the shaft. The shaft is set on a tapering plinth with slate panels. One slate panel is inscribed IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO/ GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE TWO GREAT WARS (NAMES). The remaining three panels are inscribed with names only. The plinth is set on a two-stage square base.

The whole memorial stands in the sunken centre of a rock garden defined by a modern metal fence. Neither the fence nor the rock garden are included in the listing.
