Description

Number 1 and the attached Post Office is a 17th-century house that now functions as a house and shop. It is built from squared coursed limestone and features a Collyweston slate roof. The original layout was a three-unit plan, and the building has two storeys, with some areas having attics. The front has a three-window range of 20th-century PVC casements set in original openings under wooden lintels. There are two 19th-century canted bay windows in the center, which also contain 20th-century PVC casements. A 20th-century door, located between the bay windows, is set under a wooden lintel. To the far left, there is an early 19th-century shop front that includes two bow windows and a central part-glazed double door. The left side features gabled eaves dormers and an ashlar gable parapet. Stone stacks are present at the ridge. The left gable has a three-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion window on the first floor and a bow-fronted shop window on the ground floor. The rear of the building has various 19th-century extensions. The interior has not been inspected, but the center room is noted to have a wooden fireplace surround with pilasters and a pulvinated frieze, as well as an 18th-century corner cupboard.
