Description

Number 2 and attached outbuildings is a house dating from the 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. The house is constructed of squared, coursed, and banded limestone, with a Collyweston slate roof. It follows a 3-unit plan, forming an L-shaped arrangement. It has two storeys and a four-window front. The first floor has a range of eight-paned sash windows, each set beneath a stone lintel with a keyblock. The ground floor features three 19th-century canted bay windows, also with similar sashes. The bay window on the far left incorporates 19th-century casements. All the windows have slate roofs and shutters with recesses. A six-panel, part-glazed door is located to the left of the centre, sheltered by a stone lintel with a keyblock and a flat wooden hood. A gabled dormer is situated on the right. The rear elevation has a cross-wing projecting to the left, with a 19th-century bay window in the gable end. A stair turret, at the intersection of the wings, has a 19th-century lean-to addition. The interior, which was not inspected, is noted to contain a late 18th-century staircase with turned balusters and scrolled treads, a fireplace with a bolection-moulded surround, and a room on the first floor with bolection-moulded panelling. Attached to the rear are 18th and 19th-century outbuildings which were formerly used as stables and a doctor’s surgery. The house has ashlar gable parapets and ashlar stacks at the ridge.
