Description
No. 4 Park Street is a house that has been converted into a house and shop. It dates from the mid-18th century and was altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and has a Collyweston slate roof. Originally, it had a three-unit plan and is two storeys high.
The front features a four-window range of 19th-century casements set under the eaves on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is a pair of 19th-century single-light sash windows with ashlar surrounds to the left. The central entrance has a 20th-century door with a similar ashlar surround, and to the right is a late 19th-century shop front with a recessed door. The building has ashlar gable parapets on the right and stone stacks at the ridge and end.
At the rear, there are two wings at right angles; the right wing is 18th century and has a lower eaves level. Although the interior was not inspected, it was noted that the lean-to at the rear contains a 16th-century reset chambered fireplace bressumer with roll moulding and Tudor rose and folded leaf decoration. The building is included for its group value.
