Description

A row of three houses, now two dwellings, located on West Street, Kings Cliffe, was built in the 17th century and altered in the 19th century. The houses are constructed of squared coursed limestone with Collyweston and Welsh slate roofs. Originally designed with a single-room plan, they are now two storeys high, with a further attic storey to part of the building. The front has a four-window range of 19th-century casement windows, some of which have been renewed in the 20th century. A 19th-century canted bay window with a slated roof is located on the far right. A small, single-light leaded window sits in the centre of number 5, set beneath a stone lintel. A four-panel, part-glazed door is positioned to the left of centre of number 5, and a 20th-century part-glazed door is on the far right, both also set beneath stone lintels. The central and right-hand three bays were raised and given an attic in the 19th century, with three flat-roofed dormers added to the eaves. There is a blocked door in the centre of this range. Brick and stone stacks are visible at the ridge and end of the building. Inside number 5, a room to the right of the entrance has an open fireplace with a bressumer and a chamfered spine beam.
