Description
Number 40 and M. & J. Greatorex Shop is a building that combines a house and a shop, dating from the mid-18th century and 19th century. It features regular coursed lias and limestone with a thatch and slate roof. Originally, it had one and two-unit plans and is two storeys tall, with an attic. The front has a three-window range of casements beneath wood lintels. There is a door to the left under a wood lintel and a 20th-century shop front on the far right. The left bay is two-storey with a thatch roof, while the two bays on the right have 19th-century dormers. A brick stack is located at the end, and there is a 19th-century brick extension at the rear right. The interior contains some spine beams. This building is included for its group value.
