Description

10, 11, and 12 Market Street is a range containing two houses and a shop, dating from the early to mid-19th century, possibly as a remodelling of an earlier building. The exterior is cement rendered with a slate roof and features a rear lateral stack with a stone rubble shaft and cast-iron rainwater goods. The building has a central passage entrance leading to a court, with a shop on the left side.

The structure is two storeys high, with deep eaves supported by paired, moulded brackets and an eaves board. The front is asymmetrical with three bays, including a central passage doorway with an overlight, a 16-pane 19th-century hornless sash window to the right, and three similar windows on the first floor. The shop front on the left has pilasters with carved consoles supporting a moulded cornice. To the right, there is a blocked doorway with an overlight. The late 19th or early 20th-century shop window features plate-glass windows flanked by fluted cast-iron columns, with the windows canted towards a central half-glazed shop door that also has an overlight.

Inside, the shop interior is plain and has been altered, with partitions removed, but it is noted that building works have revealed evidence of a former building line behind the current one. The range is included for its group value.
