Description
No. 94 Long Street is a shop and dwelling located in Atherstone. The rear part of the building dates from the early 19th century, while the front section was built in the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of brick and clad in stone, featuring string courses and a partially boxed-in wood modillion cornice. The roofs, covered with plain tiles, are not visible from the front, and there is a brick ridge stack.
The building has two parallel ranges and stands three storeys high with a three-window range. On the left side, there is a moulded round-arched entrance leading to a passage. The shop front, dating from the 1920s or 1930s, includes leaded glazing in the upper part and a sun-burst motif above a recessed glazed door. The 19th-century moulded wood surround features fluted pilaster strips, consoles, and an entablature. To the right, there is a shuttered window with a segmental-arched central section, a console key, and a shaped hood mould with finials and consoles. The upper floors have four-pane sash windows set in moulded architraves. The first-floor segmental-arched windows have sills supported by consoles, sunk spandrels, and segmental pediments with a string course between them. The lower second floor displays simpler architraves.
The rear range has a three-window facade made of Flemish bond brick, with a rusticated rendered basket-archway on the right and 20th-century doors. The late 20th-century top-hung sashes have rusticated rendered flat arches with keyblocks.
The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
