Description
No. 18 King Street is a house and shop dating from the early 19th century, featuring a later 19th-century shop front and an 18th-century range at the rear. The front is made of colourwashed brick, while the rear is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings. The building has a pantile roof and is two storeys high with two first-floor windows. The shop front includes a central recessed glazed door situated between three-pane shop windows, which are flanked by a pair of fluted half-columns that support a frieze, cornice, and hood on carved consoles. To the left of the shop front, there is a door leading to a through-passage, topped by a plain overlight. The first floor features 16-pane sash windows in flush wood architraves, and there are two 20th-century dormers. An end stack is located to the left. This building is included for its group value.
