Description

Central House is a house with late 17th-century origins, subsequently altered and extended in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of squared limestone with brick dressings and stacks, and has a pantile roof. The house is L-shaped, with a central entrance hall facing the front, a rear kitchen wing, and an outshut in the angle. It has two storeys and three bays, arranged symmetrically. A late 19th- to early 20th-century projecting, flat-roofed porch has a two-leaf panelled outer door with glazed sides and an inner door. Contemporary, flat-roofed, canted bay sash windows flank the porch. First-floor sash windows are set in flush wood surrounds, with stucco flat arches and projecting sills; a narrower window sits above the entrance. Stepped brick eaves, a stone-coped brick gable, and end stacks are present. Inside, a staircase features a wreathed handrail and plain balusters. A ground floor room has an arched alcove with an architrave, round-headed alcoves beside the fireplace, and a moulded cornice.
