Description
The George Inn is a public house built in the late 18th to early 19th century, with later alterations and an addition on the left side. It is constructed of squared limestone with red brick dressings and stacks. The original section features a central entrance hall plan and is two storeys high with three bays, arranged symmetrically, along with a two-bay addition. The building has a rendered plinth.
The entrance consists of a late 19th-century two-leaf door set in a pilaster doorcase, topped with a plain entablature and hood. This is flanked by 16-pane sash windows in flush wood architraves, which have painted segmental brick arches and stucco cills. On the first floor, there is one 16-pane sash window and two later 4-pane sash windows, along with a narrower window above the entrance.
On the left side, there is one 16-pane flush sash window under a stucco flat arch, a blocked window, and two inserted casements on the ground floor, with two similar 16-pane sashes above. The building features a plain eaves board and brick-edged stone-coped gables, with an axial stack and an end stack on the right.
