Description

Norton House is a house built in the early 19th century, with a 20th-century roof. It is constructed of grey brick and has a concrete tile roof. The building is two storeys high and has three bays. The entrance is located on the left and features a flight of stone steps leading to a Doric surround. This surround includes engaged columns that support a plain entablature with a modillioned cornice and a flat hood. The entrance door is a six-panel design with beaded panels, topped by a moulded cornice and a radial fanlight set in an arched panelled reveal. To the right of the entrance, there are two unequal sash windows with glazing bars, positioned beneath channelled stucco flat arches that have raised fan-moulded keys. On the first floor, there are three smaller unequal sash windows that match the style of those below. The eaves cornice is stepped and dentilled, and the roof is hipped with an end stack on the right side.

Inside, the house features an open well staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail and plain balusters. The stair hall and the front rooms on both the ground and first floors have moulded plaster cornices. The front rooms also include panelled doors and window shutters, all framed in beaded architraves with floral decoration.
