Description

This is a house and shop, dating from the early 19th century, likely with earlier origins. It has undergone later alterations, including the addition of a shopfront on the left-hand side and changes to the right. The building is constructed from roughly squared limestone, with brick dressings. It is two storeys high, with four windows on the first floor. Brick quoins are visible on the first floor to the right.

No. 16 features a shopfront with pilasters framing a part-glazed door and overlight, alongside a shop window to the left, all beneath a fascia, cornice, and hood. No. 14 has a doorcase with tapered pilasters supporting a simple entablature and hood. It contains a panelled door set within a panelled reveal, flanked by single 16-pane flush sashes with stucco arches and sills. A 20th-century 2-light casement is located to the right. The first floor of No. 14 has three 16-pane sashes, while No. 16 has a single sliding sash window beneath a segmental brick arch. Stone-coped gables with shaped kneelers top the building. There are both an end stack and two axial stacks. The building is included on the list for its contribution to the character of the surrounding area.
