Description

Nos 1 and 3 King Street are a pair of houses built in the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century and a shopfront added in the 20th century. The houses are constructed from squared limestone, with a brick gable on the left and brick stacks. They are two storeys high and consist of six bays. The entrances are located in the second and fourth bays, featuring doorcases with pilasters that support plain entablatures and hoods. Each entrance has a six-panel door and plain overlights set within the reveals. The windows are four-pane flush sashes with stucco flat arches and cills, while the first floor has similar sashes, with narrower windows above the entrances; the window above the entrance to No 1, on the left, includes margin lights. The gables are topped with stone copings, and there is a large axial stack to No 1 and an end stack to the right.

Inside, No 3 features a stair hall with an open-well staircase that has a ramped and wreathed handrail, column-on-vase balusters with square knops, and a moulded ceiling with a cornice and central fan design. There is also a moulded cornice in the ground floor room to the right. An adjoining range to the left continues as the shop for No 1 King Street, which is not of special interest.
