Description

Cottage, circa early 19th century, extended in the 20th century. The original cottage is built of colour-washed wichert with a later slate pitched roof, featuring a lateral brick chimney stack and weather-vane. Later extensions are of colour-washed rendered brick with slate roofs. The building is two storeys high with a three-window range. The plan is single depth, with single-depth extensions added laterally; a late 20th-century extension forms an L-shape to the rear. The original range is to the left, with recessed two-light casements featuring glazing bars and a panelled door to the right. A lean-to roof extension is on the gable wall. A central, lower range has a similar casement window to the ground floor and a nine-pane sash window to the first. The right-hand range dates to the 20th century, with a similar casement window to the first floor and a small window to the ground. The interior of the original range features chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, elm lintels over windows and doors, and a walnut bressumer over a wide inglenook fireplace incorporating a bread oven and salt box to the left, with the remains of a staircase to the right. A wide, projecting swept chimney breast rises through a first-floor room with wide floorboards. The narrow stair range has a closed string with stick balusters and two elm doors with H-hinges to cupboards under the stairs, while on the opposite rear wall angle is an elm fitted corner cupboard with H-hinges. This range has a projecting brick chimney breast and a red clay tiled floor.
