Description

The cottage is likely 18th century in origin, with later 19th and 20th century additions and alterations. It is constructed of painted Flemish bond brick and weatheboarded end gables, with a straw thatch half-hipped roof. A brick axial stack is positioned to the right of the centre, featuring a later brick shaft and incorporating a large fireplace with an oven in the larger left-hand room, originally used for heating. The smaller right-hand room was initially unheated but now contains a 20th century range connected to the rear of the axial stack, as well as a staircase also against the stack. A doorway at the front provides direct access to the left-hand room, although this may not be the original entry point. A small outhut was added around the late 19th century, and further 20th century single-storey additions extend from the entrance and the rear of the original range.

The cottage is a single storey with an attic. The front elevation is asymmetrical, featuring two small windows: a 20th century single-light casement with glazing bars to the right, and a 19th century 2-light casement without glazing bars to the left of centre. A circa late 19th or early 20th century plank door is located at the left end of the front. Two symmetrically placed dormers with 20th century 2-light casements with glazing bars are set into the thatch. A 20th century single-storey brick extension, with a hipped plain tile roof, is linked to the original cottage by a circa late 19th century lean-to. The rear elevation includes a 19th century 3-light casement and a 20th century flat-roof extension. A 20th century 3-light casement is found in the left-hand end wall, on both floors.

The main left-hand room features an unchamfered or thinly chamfered cross beam and roughly dressed exposed rafters. The large fireplace within the axial stack has a thinly chamfered timber lintel. The small right-hand room has exposed rafters and a 20th century Aga range against the axial stack. The first floor and roof space were not inspected.
