Description
Pattisons Farmhouse is a pair of houses dating from the 16th century, with alterations and extensions made in the early to mid-20th century. The houses are timber-framed and have brick and tile hanging, covered by a plain tiled roof. They sit on a ragstone plinth and feature a hipped roof with gablets, as well as stacks to the centre and rear ends of both houses. The upper floor has five wooden casement windows, while the ground floor has four, with a half-glazed door in the centre to the right, topped with a hipped roof. The lower panel of this door may date to the 17th century and features a raised diagonal cross. A large canted bay window is on the right return.
A single-storeyed rear wing leads to a 20th-century replica wing at the rear, mirroring the appearance of the original wing. This linking wing now forms part of No. 2 and includes internal 17th-century wainscotting. It is believed that the carved panel depicting the Pelican in her Piety, which is in the pulpit of Aldington Church, originated from this wainscotting. The wing also features a deeply cut four-centred arched doorway leading into No. 1, which was originally the rear entrance to the cross passage of the original timber-framed building. The interior is reported to be richly timbered, with a "screen arch" and doors to the hall.
