Description

Cottage. Early 17th century, extended to one end in the mid-19th century and with further 19th and 20th century extensions to the north, facing the entrance. Timber framed on whitewashed stone plinth with whitewashed brick infill above and rendered cladding to eaves. Pebble-dashed cladding on 19th century extension and brick extensions to north. Plain tiled roofs, hipped over end extensions and 20th century over older range. Large multiple stack to left of centre at junction with 19th century range. One storey and attic on old framed range, two storeys to left.

The garden front (to rear) has three framed bays to old range with 19th century casement fenestration. Two-light outer casements and smaller window to right of centre. Glazed 20th century door to left of centre. Small gabled dormer to left of centre. Chimney bay to left with three horizontal beams of thin scantling linking to 19th century range, having one glazing-bar 20th century window on each floor in older 19th century architrave surrounds.

The right hand return front (east) has a small gable end stack and blocked doorway to right. The entrance front is largely obscured by single storey extensions at right angles to right of centre.

Interior: the majority of the frame appears intact with some arch bracing to cross walls. The staircase is of steep gradient with the treads divided into staggered levels. The cottage is unusually complete with much of the original character surviving. The 19th and later additions are not of special interest and have no internal features of value.
