Description
Cross Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 16th century, with a 17th-century wing at the rear and late 19th-century extensions to the left end and the end of the wing. The front of the house is timber-framed with square panels, featuring thick curved end bracing to the right side, and sits on a stone plinth. Brick infilling is visible, and the left end was whitewashed in the 19th century. The left end is underbuilt in brick. The roof has a steep pitch and is covered with plain tiles, hipped with a gablet to the right end. The central section has a single storey and attic, with two gabled dormers featuring lattice leaded casement windows – a two-light window on the left and a three-light window on the right. Octagonal brick stacks sit on plinths to the left of centre and a double stack to the right of centre, with a further end stack to the right and a ridge stack to the centre of the rear wing. The windows are diamond-pane leaded casements, with two windows at eaves height on the right and four windows across the ground floor. A 20th-century ribbed and part-glazed door is located on the right, and a 20th-century door is set within a recessed porch with an arched opening on the left. The rear of the house shows exposed timber framing, with an end extension jettied on the first floor. The interior features a substantial, exposed timber frame.
