Description

South Lodge is a mid-19th century Tudor/Gothic cottage of notable elaboration. The two-storey building has two windows. It features a very steep roof covered in scalloped slates, gables, and a prominent chimney stack. The walls are of red brick in Flemish bond, with yellow brick quoins, bands, and blue headers used to create diaper patterns. The lodge has a double-stepped plinth and diagonal buttresses to the porch. A large gabled porch with a pointed arch provides access to the doorway, incorporating a single ground floor bay. At the rear, there is a hexagonal outbuilding constructed in the same style. The building is unaltered and represents an architectural fantasy.
