Description

SHIP LANE 1. 5238 (west side) Farnborough No 23 (Oriel Cottage) SU 8756 4/64 13.11.75 II 2. Originated as a late medieval wood-framed building, but is mainly an early C19 'Cottage Orne' in full-dress Tudor style. 2 storeys, projection at rear, 2 storeyed porch on the front. Steep red tile roof with gables, plain barge-boards on corner brackets; massive coupled diagonal chimney stacks on rectangular base, which has recessed panel in middle stage.

Red brickwork with some blue headers mainly English bond; part of rist floor half-timbered. Hoodmoulds, tiled weathering, and in one case a gabled feature above window openings; one ground floor bay and a first floor oriel. Porch has four centred arch in ground floor brick-work, with an upper stage in close framing, topped by a gable jettied with barge boards. Casement windows in recessed solid woodwork, with arched lights. Studded doors at front and sides.
