Description
The Monastic Buildings to the Abbey Church of St Michael, located on Farnborough Road, were originally built for the Empress to allow monks to serve as custodians of the tombs. Initially established as a Premonstratensian priory, it later became a Benedictine abbey in 1903. The central unit is a two-storey red brick domestic building designed in a plain Victorian style, featuring dormers. To the north, there is a three-storey stone extension that is plain, with small painted windows, bracketed eaves, bands, and steep dormers. On the south side, a larger stone extension is designed in the Norman style, showcasing typical monastic architectural features in a complex and irregular form.
