Description
No. 2 Queens Square is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century and was remodeled in the early 20th century. The building is constructed from random rubble with quoins and has a slate roof featuring four courses of stone slate. It has a single-depth, two-unit plan oriented on a north-south axis and faces west, with a rear wing to the northern half that was formerly a separate property known as the tailor's shop but is now integrated internally.
The exterior consists of two low storeys with four windows. There is a wide gabled porch in the center of the ground floor, which has been recently added. To the left, there are large 20th-century casement windows with three lights, and to the right, there are two-light casement windows. Under the eaves, there are similar casements with three, two, and two lights. At the right-hand end of each floor, there is a small 17th-century segmental-headed one-light window with a stepped surround. The building features gable chimneys, with the right chimney being slightly larger and partly enclosed by the gable end of the adjoining Ivy Cottage. The left gable wall has a blocked one-light window at the first floor. The two-window rear wing has altered windows on this side and double-tiered pigeon holes in the rear gable.
The interior was remodeled and refurbished in the 20th century. This property forms a group with the rear of Edmonson's and The Wool Shop.
