Description
Bank House is a house that was formerly used as a bank and is now a private dwelling. It likely dates from the mid-19th century and has been altered. The building is constructed of watershot coursed sandstone rubble with a slate roof and features a double-depth single-fronted plan. It stands three storeys high over a basement and has two windows on the front facade.
On the ground floor, there is a square-headed doorway to the left, which is accessed by three steps and protected by iron railings on the right. To the right of the doorway, there is a 4-pane sash window and a large rectangular multi-pane fixed window, which has raked wooden shutters beneath the sill to protect a basement opening. The first floor contains two 4-pane sash windows, while the top floor has two square 2-light casement windows. The building has a ridge chimney and a gable chimney on the right side. The right-hand gable wall and the rear wall have windows on all three floors.
The interior has not been inspected. Bank House forms part of a significant group of buildings that includes Ivy Cottage to the left, the George and Dragon and Edmonson's opposite, and the Church of St Andrew to the rear, contributing to the character of the street in Dent Town.
