Description

Edmonson's is a cottage located on Main Street in Dent, likely built in the late 17th century or early 18th century. It has been altered and recently renovated. The structure features roughly-coursed mixed rubble and a stone slate roof, with a single-depth plan.

The cottage is situated on a sloped site, appearing as two storeys at the front and three storeys at the rear. The front facade has three windows and a square-headed doorway on the right, which has a large monolithic lintel. The ground floor includes two 20th-century six-pane windows with renewed joinery. On the first floor, there are two square two-light windows and one square one-light window, all with stepped chamfered surrounds and chamfered mullions.

The rear of the cottage has been recently altered and partly restored. The bottom storey now features a segmental-headed garage doorway on the left, replacing a two-light mullioned window, along with a two-light mullioned window and a segmental-headed one-light window on the right. The middle storey has two two-light mullioned windows, one of which has likely been moved from below, and a similar one-light window to the right, all with moulded surrounds. The top storey contains three two-light mullioned windows, with stone slate drip-bands above all the upper floor windows.

The cottage is part of a group with the adjoining cottages and smithy to the right at the front, as well as No. 2 Queen's Square to the rear.
