Description

Sedgwick Cottage is a house that has been converted into a shop with a dwelling above. It likely dates from the late 18th century and has undergone alterations. The building is constructed from coursed thin sandstone rubble with quoins and is painted white, topped with a stone slate roof. It features a double-depth, double-fronted plan with three storeys and two windows, which are almost symmetrical. The central doorway has a part-glazed door, with a small window to the left and a four-pane sash window to the right. On the first floor, there are two square two-light casements at different levels, with the one on the right being lower. The second floor has two similar windows, but the right-hand window now has a top-hung casement opening. There is a shared ridge chimney on the left and a gable chimney on the right. The right-hand gable wall has a window on each floor near the front corner, along with a small window and a tall doorway towards the rear. The rear of the building has irregular fenestration on three levels, mostly featuring two-light casements with renewed joinery.

The interior has been altered. Sedgwick Cottage is part of a significant street frontage that includes White Hart House and Gable Cottage to the left, with Sedgwick Fountain located against the front right-hand corner. A gateway to the churchyard of the Church of St Andrew is attached to the rear right-hand corner, and the Church of St Andrew is situated at the rear.
