Description

A pair of cottages built in the late 17th or early 18th century, with alterations made in the mid to later 19th century. They are constructed of roughly coursed sandstone rubble with quoins, the rear walls are whitewashed, and they have a stone slate roof. The cottages are arranged in a single depth, with two units facing west on a north-south axis, and the rear overlooking the churchyard.

West View, on the left, has a 19th-century square-headed doorway with a part-glazed door and a large rectangular lintel with a simple hoodmould. It also features a small square window with a stone surround, a large six-pane window to the left, and two further large six-pane windows on the first floor, all now top-hung casements designed to resemble sash windows. Cobble Cottage, to the right, has a similarly styled doorway, with old quoining on the left jamb, a six-pane sash window to the right, and another above it. The cottages have gable chimneys; the one on the right is square and positioned just inside the gable wall. The rear wall, which stands three stories high, has four small windows on each main floor, all with four-pane glazing. Most are square, except for the oblong windows in the centre of the ground floor which have narrow side lights. A small, blocked one-light window is located on the second floor to the right.

The interior has not been inspected. The cottages form part of a prominent town centre group, with the Church of St Andrew to the rear and the Sun Hotel opposite.
