Description

The Sun Inn is an inn, now functioning as a public house, likely built in the mid-18th century, as it was described as "newly erected" in 1758. The building features white-painted roughly-coursed rubble with quoins and a stone slate roof. It has a single-depth, two-unit plan with a short extension to the left, a large rear wing on the northern half, and outshuts in the angle.

The exterior consists of two low storeys with a total of four windows on the main range, which is divided into a 1:3 window arrangement. The main range includes a square-headed doorway that is slightly offset to the right, a four-pane sash window above the doorway, and two square 20-pane windows on each floor, all with painted stone surrounds. There is an old square signboard to the left at the first floor featuring a radiant smiling sun above the curved lettering "BEST ALE UNDER THE SUN," along with a three-step mounting block near the right-hand corner. The one-window extension to the left has one square sash window on each floor, with four panes on the lower level and 20 panes on the upper level. The building has a ridge chimney at the junction and a gable chimney to the right.

At the rear, there is a gabled two-storey wing with a corbelled chimney and outshuts to the right, which include later extensions. Inside, the inn features two axial beams in the left bay and three lateral beams in the right-hand bay. There is an 18th-century dog-legged staircase in the rear wing, which has a closed string, small turned balusters, and fielded panelling.
