Description

Ivy Cottage is a house located on Main Street in Dent, likely built in the early 19th century, though it has been altered over time. The building is constructed of white-washed mixed random rubble with large quoins and features a double-depth, double-fronted plan that backs onto the churchyard.

The exterior consists of three storeys plus a basement and attic, with two windows on the front. A square-headed doorway is situated up three steps and is flanked by 4-pane sash windows at the ground and first floors. At the second floor, there are square 2-light casements, all of which are offset to the right. To the left at ground level, there is a rectangular 4-pane fixed window, and to the right, a basement opening that is currently protected by raked wooden shutters. The building has large lateral chimneys at both original gables and a bracketed oversailing roof verge on the left side. The left gable wall features a doorway near the rear corner, a very small window to the right, and one small 1-light window above, with another at the attic level. The rear of the building has various small windows.

The interior was not inspected. Ivy Cottage forms part of a group with the gateway to the churchyard at the rear left corner, Sedgwick Cottage to the left, the former Midland Bank to the right, the Church of St Andrew behind, and the George and Dragon opposite.
