Description
The gateway to the south side of the churchyard of the Church of St Andrew in Dent is likely from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It features sandstone piers and a wrought-iron gate. The gateway consists of a pair of simple round-topped piers and a large wrought-iron gate that has round bars and dog-bars, all adorned with double scrolls at the tops. The dog-bars pass through an arched brace, and the top of the gate is topped with a segmental arch that has a pendent scrolled strap and is pierced by an arrow-head finial with scrolled decoration on the shaft. This gateway is part of a group that includes the Church of St Andrew, Sedgwick Cottage, Sedgwick Fountain, and Ivy Cottage.
