Description
White Hart House and Gable Cottage are two former inn buildings, now used as private houses, likely dating from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and later. The buildings are constructed of whitewashed rubble with a stone slate roof. They have a single-depth plan, composed of two unequal units—Gable Cottage on the left and White Hart House on the right—arranged on an east-west axis, facing south and backing onto a churchyard.
The buildings are three storeys high and have one and two windows respectively. The ground floor features two square-headed doorways, one offset to the left and the other to the right, which has a chamfered stone surround. There is a small four-pane sash window to the left of the ground floor, and two sash windows without glazing bars to the right. At the first floor, Gable Cottage has a central sash window similar to those on the ground floor, while White Hart House has two of these sashes. The second floor of Gable Cottage has a square six-pane sash, and White Hart House has three top-hung casement windows. A square chimney is located at the left gable of Gable Cottage, slightly extruded on corbels; a shared chimney rises from the ridge to the right. Attached mounting steps are situated at the front right-hand corner of White Hart House. The rear of the buildings has various small square and rectangular windows on three levels.
The interior has not been inspected. The buildings adjoin Sedgwick Cottage to the right and form part of an important group of buildings backing onto the churchyard, facing the Sun Inn and other buildings opposite.
