Description

The Wool Shop is a small house that has been converted into a shop. It likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building is constructed of random rubble, with the front painted white, and features a stone slate roof. It has a single-depth, three-unit plan.

The exterior consists of two low storeys and four windows arranged in a 1:3 grouping. The ground floor has a central doorway with a panelled and partially glazed door, topped by a deep stone lintel that features 17th-century carved decorations, including lozenges and flowers. To the left of the doorway is a large oblong shop window with 18 panes, and to the right is a large almost-square shop window with 15 panes. On the upper floor, there are 16-pane sash windows above the doorway and to the left, and a larger 20-pane sash window to the right. All of these windows are hornless and have exposed boxes. There is also a similar sashed window on each floor further to the left. A large square chimney is located on the ridge at the junction to the left.

At the rear, there is a small doorway offset to the right, which has a drip-band above it. Above and to the right of this doorway is a round-headed 1-light window with glazing bars. To the left at ground floor level is a 3-light mullioned window with a drip-band, and above this is an altered 3-light window. There is one window on each floor at the right-hand end, with the upper window being sashed and featuring glazing bars.

The interior has not been inspected. The Wool Shop forms a group with the house adjoining to the right and the Post Office adjoining to the left.
